Botanical Brewing Kanna vs. Innerbloom

Two sparkling kanna cans, side by side on what the label actually says and what you pay at each brand's site.

By The Functional Sip · Updated October 14, 2026
The short answer
For flavor, our pick is Botanical Brewing Co. Kanna Pomegranate Fusion: sparkling pomegranate and raspberry, with 20 mg of kanna isolate on the label and 48 calories. Innerbloom Ethereal Drift is the lighter, cheaper can: citrus, watermelon and hibiscus, 25 calories, 3 g of sugar and 10 mg of kanna, plus L-theanine and magnesium. Pick BBCo if you want a fruit-forward can that's kanna only. Pick Innerbloom if calories and price per can matter most.

Reading the kanna numbers

BBCo's panel lists 20 mg kanna isolate, and its product page describes the blend as "Triblend Kanna," made from "Heavy, Uplifting, and Balanced kanna." Innerbloom's label lists 10 mg kanna (sourced from South Africa). One says isolate and the other says kanna, and kanna preparations differ, so don't read the two numbers as a like-for-like strength comparison. One can is one serving either way. Taste and ingredients

Botanical Brewing Kanna Pomegranate Fusion is BBCo's first kanna drink: pomegranate and raspberry, sparkling, sweetened with agave, apple juice and monk fruit. The ingredient list is filtered water, organic agave, organic apple juice, organic monk fruit, natural flavors, organic pomegranate juice, citric acid, tartaric acid and Sceletium tortuosum (kanna). Nothing else on the label is a botanical, so it's a kanna-only can. Read our full Pomegranate Fusion review.

Innerbloom Ethereal Drift is lighter and less sweet on paper: a lightly sparkling citrus base with watermelon and hibiscus, sweetened with organic agave nectar, with 0 g of added sugar on the label. Besides kanna extract, it lists L-theanine, magnesium bisglycinate and sea salt (Innerbloom calls it "electrolytes"). It's Innerbloom's only drink, in 8, 12 and 24-packs.

Price

At the brand sites on October 14, 2026, Innerbloom was cheaper per can: $5.00 to $6.00, against $7.23 to $7.65 for BBCo. Both are cheapest per can in a bigger pack, except BBCo's 12-pack, which works out lower per can than its 24-pack.

Which should you buy?

Whichever you pick, have one can, not two, and don't mix it with alcohol or a kava can. Both labels say to avoid them if you're pregnant or nursing, and Innerbloom's also says to avoid it if you take SSRIs or MAOIs. Read who should skip kanna below.

Who should skip kanna

  • Kanna drinks are for adults 21+. Skip them if you're under 21.
  • Skip kanna if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Never combine kanna with antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs) or other serotonergic medications.
  • Talk to your doctor first if you take sedatives, sleep aids or any other daily medication.
  • Rules on botanical products vary by state and country. Check your local rules before you buy.
  • One can is one serving. Don't drink it with alcohol, and don't drive after drinking it.

These are general cautions, not medical advice. If you're unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Questions people ask

Which has more kanna, BBCo or Innerbloom?

BBCo's label lists 20 mg of kanna isolate and Innerbloom's lists 10 mg of kanna. They describe the ingredient differently, so the numbers aren't a direct strength comparison.

Which is lower in calories?

Innerbloom: 25 calories and 3 g of sugar per can, against 48 calories and 12 g of sugar for BBCo's Pomegranate Fusion.

Which is cheaper?

Innerbloom, at $5.00 to $6.00 a can at the brand site on October 14, 2026. BBCo's Pomegranate Fusion was $7.23 to $7.65 a can.

Does either one contain kava?

No. Neither label lists kava. Innerbloom adds L-theanine and magnesium; BBCo's can is kanna only.

Can you drink kanna with alcohol?

We don't recommend it, and BBCo's label says not to combine it with alcohol. Drink kanna instead of alcohol, not with it.
